Banning plastic bags is not an easy task. Project GreenBag, Heal the Bay, and other leading reusable bag makers have worked diligently to educate and lobby the California senate. We have seen a tremendous amount of public support and activism which has aided the movement. Now more than ever, it is a critical time to ban plastic bags. Bill AB 1998 is not perfect, in fact many sacrifices had to be made to please all sides. Each reusable bag maker is now required to pay a large fee (in the range of $5K-$10K) in order to do business in the state. As you can imagine, fees on an emerging industry is not good for business.
